Seeing Nicolas Cage as the classic literary monster is one of its biggest selling points Renfield, with the actor declaring that it was only a matter of time before he donned the fangs and cape. He recently said, “The concept of Dracula itself is a challenge. It’s been done a few times already. It’s done too well and not too well executed.” “I definitely admire Christopher Lee, Frank Langella, Bela Lugosi, and Gary [Oldman]. But I wanted to see if I could bring something new to the character. I also always knew I had to do it at some point.”
Aside from turning to the likes of Bela Lugosi, Hammer Horror icon Christopher Lee, and even his father for inspiration, Cage revealed that he would play Dracula as if his desire for blood was “an addiction to alcohol or heroin.” This is Nic Cage’s most approachable approach to the horror icon. “More importantly than borrowing from my dad, or from Christopher Lee, it’s really about the psychology of the character,” Cage explained. “Blood addiction is no different than addiction to alcohol, heroin, or sex, so I thought about how this lust could drive someone into even darker dimensions.”

Nicholas Holt (Mad Max: Fury Road) plays RM Renfield, the tormented aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar-winning Nicolas Cage). Renfield is compelled to buy his master’s prey and do all his bidding, no matter how low he gets. But now, after centuries of slavery, Renfield is ready to see if there is life outside the Count’s shadow. If only he could figure out how to end codependency.
